Students of civil engineering department of GNDEC college outperform in yet another even of its kind, 19th steel intensive innovative design of food grain godown organised by INSDAG(institute of steel development and growth), Kolkata. The contest had a series of 4 rounds which was a tough and a mind boggling experience for the participants . There were 87 entrants teams from all over the country in it in which Krishna Murari, Satinder pal singh and Siddharth Popli of civil engineering Branch of GNE bagged 3rd prize and rewarded handsomely for their efforts. Sharing their experience, they brought the idea of innovative design of food grain godown with additions of certain new structural elements using steel as per the parameters given by INSDAG, Kolkata. Project revolves around the practical utility of steel as structural member as per the recommendations and provisions provided by Indian standard codes.
As told by the team, the competition had four rounds of grilling the participating teams. After evaluating all the projects sent by overall India in the series of 3 rounds, Top 16 teams were selected for the fourth and final round of presenting the projects infront of well known personalities in the field of structural engineering and were called to INSDAG, Jalpaiguri, Kolkata (a fully sponsored trip for shorlisted teams). Use of steel elements innovatively keeping in view aestheticness and economical design with addition of certain complex members like castellated beams etc. which made them bag 3rd position overall national level.
The team members also got the privilege to have a luncheon with INSDAG’s officers and other global leaders.HOD of civil engineering of college Dr. H. S. Rai, on this achievement congratulate the winners to produce outstanding work, demonstrating its capability and expertise and encourage our members to continue to participate and grow our industry into the future.
Principal, Dr. Sehijpal Singh was very glad to hear about this achievement of the Team and congratulated them and also paid regards and best wishes to the team for representing the college on a national level. He also encouraged them to represent their skills on a global level by participating in the upcoming international contests as well, for which, he assured the college is ready to give full support.
