A cyclist, Harshveer Singh Sekhon, of Guru Nanak Dev Engineering College (GNDEC) has added another feather to varsity’s cap and brought laurels to the institution by bagging two gold medals in an inter-varsity Road Cycling Championship held at Bikaner from January 1 to 5.
Harshveer is a student of final year in the CSE branch. As a representative of Punjab Technical University, Jalandhar, and hailing from GNDEC, Ludhiana, he participated in two events — 40-km individual time trial and criterium race. Sekhon nailed both races and emerged the winner.
His next target is now the Asian Games 2022 and the Commonwealth Games 2022. Harshveer thanked the college authorities who supported him at all steps to reach where he is today. He has also bagged second position in the senior 4-km team pursuit track cycling in the Asia Cup 2019, held at New Delhi, from September 9 to 11, 2019.
On being selected as the Indian representative for the Asian Track Cycling to be held in South Korea, Harshveer extends his gratitude to his head of the department, Parminder Singh, who not only supported him academically but has always motivated him to rise above the rest.
After recognising his earlier competencies as the Asian champion in a skating tournament held in China in 2014 and 2018, and as the Indian skating representative in the Asian Games 2018; Sehijpal Singh, principal of the college, said such talents must be explored as much as possible for personal growth and achieving national and international fame. The principal and faculty wished him good luck for his future endeavours.
