Building construction and its upkeep for livable conditions requires huge energy in the form of lighting, air-conditioning, operation of appliances, etc. Green building ie energy efficient building is the one which can reduce energy consumption as compared to conventional building.
To address this issue a five day short term course on “Green Building and Techniques” is being organised jointly by Department of Civil Engineering, Guru Nanak Dev Engineering College, Ludhiana and National Institute of Technical Teachers Training and Research, Chandigarh.
Dr K S Gill, Professor and Head, Civil Engineering Department, GNDEC, in his welcome speech highlighted the relevance of this course quoting the current environmental issues. He further highlighted that this course will enable the participating teachers to learn new techniques being followed to turn buildings into ‘green buildings.
A green building is one which uses less water, improves energy efficiency, conserves natural resources, generates less waste and provides healthier spaces for occupants as compared to a conventional building.
Dr Sehijpal Singh, Principal, GNDEC, said that constructing Green Building is the need of an hour and congratulated Civil Engineering Department, GNDEC and NITTTR, Chandigarh for bringing a much needed topic in the form of this five day short term course.

Course Coordinator Himmi Gupta, Assistant Professor, NITTTR, Chandigarh said that during this five day long short term course, various topics including global environmental issues, concepts and importance of green buildings, its components and design, energy conservation building code, rating systems for green buildings and case studies will be discussed by eminent engineers and architects.
